Heart Words
This past week we began looking at Heart Words (aka - sight words) as part of our Phonics Curriculum. Heart Words are words we memorize and put in our hearts as they do not follow all the rules that we have learned so far. You might hear me refer to these as "RED" words as well. These are words that are "READ" a lot and to practice these in class we will be seeing them in RED as well as writing them with a RED crayon.
During your conference I will be giving you flashcards and a break down on the groups of these words. There is also "At Home" activities that you can do to help practice these words at home.
Here is a short video to help give you a little more information:

God's Masterpiece
Here is what our celebration will look like:
- Be my line leader and teacher assistant all week.
- On the Monday they will get to take Olivia the Owl home and return her on Friday. They will get to write and illustrate their adventures to share with their friends.
- Have special activities through out the week:
- Monday: They will share their All About Me Poster!
- Tuesday: they can bring in their favorite snack to share with their friends during the last recess.
- Wednesday: Mystery Bag - they can put ONE treasure inside the bag and they will give three clues to what is inside and see if the rest of us can guess what it is.
- Thursday: They will get to pick a special REWARD for the day!!
- Friday: Adventures with Olivia - they will share their adventures they had with Olivia through out the week.
All materials will be sent home with your student the Friday before their scheduled week.
During the week your kindergartener can pick a person to come and read to our class as well as come and have lunch with them one day. Please email Mrs. Brouwer to set that day and time up.
Letter Fluency at home practice
Now that we have mastered our letter names and sounds - we are going to be building our reading skills with building our reading fluency.
In your child's homework pocket you will find a letter name fluency sheet with a letter with more information on how to practice this at home. This sheet does not need to be turned in at the end of the week.
Watch this short video to give you a little more information on this practice.
